AMERICAN BAPTIST WOMEN'S MINISTRIES

St. Albans First Baptist Church

American Baptist Women's Ministries was born out of a group of women concerned about the preaching and teaching of the gospel to women in other lands. In 1871, The Baptist Woman's Missionary Society was formed. Over the years the name has changed as well as the way of doing things. But the commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and to the mission of the church has remained the same.

The cross resembles the one in the American Baptist Churches logo. A.B.W.M. is part of the larger church body. We are reminded of what Christ did for us. The water symbolizes baptism, the oceans and rivers of the earth that connect us to other sisters and brothers around the world and the living water offered by Christ.
The woman portrays a woman of the Bible. The new testament women were among the first to know and believe that Jesus Christ is God's Son. She is depicted stepping from waters of baptism, confident in her belief in Jesus Christ. She holds a lighted lamp. She is carrying the light and life of Jesus Christ into the world, serving Christ. This is a picture of our mission statement.

At this time we have material to use. However, we will need batting in the future. Call Mary Whaling (304-727-8780) or Phyllis Webster (304-727-4687) for more information or to be sure we are meeting on Friday; it probably will change.

As we read Luke 6:27-36 Christians are instructed to love their enemies. It then goes on to tel! us how: "Do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you." The Nadine Hinchman Circle has accepted the challenge to intentionally put this into practice for the next 30 days, hoping it will become a permanent part of our living. And we are extending the challenge to the entire church. We will be looking for the joy and blessings to be received as we endeavor to live like Jesus.

Each month we will add another step in the process, praying that we grow in our spiritual walk and become more loving and forgiving so that others will see Jesus in us.

Bible Book Reading Contest,
The year is well underway and so is the book-reading contest for all churches in the West Virginia Baptist Convention. You are to report the reading of Christian books or Bible books-of-the-month by calling Wanda CoIIins at 304-727-9751 or wandaluvsmusic@suddenlink.net. These can be reported as you read throughout the year or at the end of the year. Just please report! The 2011 books-of-the-month are: January/Mark; February/Jonah; March/Daniel; April/Zechariah; May/Nahum; June/Numbers; July/James; August/Deuteronomy; September/Amos; October/Joshua; November/I, II, and III John; December/Job. Have fun reading and don't forget to report. This is for all genders and all ages. Submitted by Wanda CoIIins Home Health Aid Needed: A member of First Baptist is in need of a paid home health aid for her mother. If you know of a dependable home health aid with good references, please call the church office at 727-4661 so that we can pass along that information.
