"Next to the Word of God, ...music is the greatest
treasure in the world/'
-Martin Luther Music is a wonderful gift from God. It is a "spark'
of the Creator which, despite our fallen nature, remains in us as a desire
to "create." It is a means of expression, and a source of inspiration
and beauty, but it is also a powerful tool when it is joined with the truth
of Scripture to proclaim and to teach the message of the Gospel, the nature
of God, and to express our biblical faith to the world. It is for that purpose
that the music ministry ofFBC exists. "Kids of the Kingdom," age
3 through grade 5, meets with the objectives of teaching: 1) the fundamentals
of music and singing, 2) biblical truths through songs presented in our
worship services giving the children the experience and responsibility of
leading worship. The older two children's choirs will continue "Foundations
of the Faith" through May, which includes activities, scripture memorization,
games, and songs. Some of the "foundations" we are learning/singing
about include, the Word of God, The 10 Commandments, Salvation, Prayer,
the Trinity, and Jesus' return. The musical, East to West, based on Psalm
103:12: -'...as far as the east is from the west, so fat-has He removed
our transgressions from us" will be presented Palm Sunday, March 28,
with the Sanctuary Choir, Emmanuel Choir, some of the children's choirs
and the Worship Team and Band. This is the last call for anyone interested
in participating. Sanctuary Choir rehearsals (Child Care is available as
needed) are Wednesdays at 7:40 p.m. (usually in the choir room) immediately
following Bible Study. Emmanuel Choir meets Sunday, 5:15 p.m., and the children
choirs meet Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. Music Camp 2010 is scheduled for June
21-25. Registration begins Sunday, March 14 for FBC family and Monday, and
March 15 for the community. If you would like to help in some capacity,
speak with Tom. So, at the beginning of 2010, if you are looking for a place
to "plug in" to the music, there are some opportunities. Perhaps
your involvement will be through prayer. Pray for our times of worship that
they will be effective in being "honest" worship, that God will
be honored, by the preparation and attitude we bring to worship and to the
Lord, and then, that we will be equipped to be Jesus' honorable representatives
outside these walls having been charged by Him to be "the light of
the world."
Blessings, ^Tom

The musical, East to West, is well in the works. It will be presented
Palm Sunday, April 5, and will involve Emmanuel Student Choir, Sanctuary
Choir, Worship Team and Band.
Registration for the FBC family begins Sunday, March 29,
and for the community on Monday, March 30. There is limited enrollment.
Don't delay; some grades fill-up quickly.
For those of you who are new to FBC, each summer we offer a Music Camp for
children entering grades 2-7 which runs Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:30
p.m. at the church facility.
Our objectives for Music Camp are:
1) To enrich the lives of children through exposure through a variety of
musical experiences in an environment where God's love in expressed, possibly
sparking a musical interest where there had not been one before, and
2) To introduce Jesus Christ to the children so that they might begin to
understand who He is and their need for Him as their personal Savior..
Music Camp includes singing, handbells, playing Orff instruments, a basic
music class, music appreciation, introduction to the orchestra, and recreation,
plus some optional classes in guitar, drums, pipe organ, and interpretive
movement. Children need not have any prior music training. The week also
includes a cookout and a swimming activity. We conclude the week with a
program presented entirely by the children on the following Sunday evening.
(June 28)
If you have interest in helping with Music Camp - music or non-music
positions - or if you have any questions about Music Camp, don't hesitate
to look me up!
Blessings,
Tom
PARTNERS IN PRAYER QUARTERLY BREAKFAST has been postponed. Check in upcoming
bulletins for the rescheduled date and time. CAREGIVERS NEEDED! The church
office often receives calls from people looking for someone able to provide
in-home care and assistance (often simply sitting with someone and seeing
that they take their medications), either on a short-term or long-term basis.
