I must share with you the following experience of this past week. Each week
we tell a bible story which highlights our letter of the week. This past
week the letter was "0" so we told the story of the widow's Offering.
After reading the story from the CONTEMPORY ENGLISH VERSION bible I gave
each child 10 foam shapes. We talked about tithing and that if these were
coins...1 of these 10 would belong to God. Then Miss Patty (Moss) collected
1 shape from each child. I then told the children that the other 9 shapes
were theirs to keep. But if they would like to give more back to Miss Patty
they could. Again I said if these were coins/ what you choose to give to
God now would be your gift to God. God's word tells us that 1 in every 10
coins or dollars belongs to God. But the rest of our money is ours and we
may choose to do what we want to with it, reminding the children that the
widow chose to give everything she had to God. Again Miss Patty went around
the room. Some children gave her 1 or more foam pieces. Three children gave
back all that they had. One of these 3 understood the concept. He said,
"now we can play with those shapes again another time." The second
of the 3 children was upset when he realized that the other children had
kept some. "But now I don't have any," he complained. The third
child shrugged his shoulders and said, "I don't like SOFT THINGS to
play with." Foam shapes are "soft things"!

FEBRUARY UNIT THEMES AND EMPHASES: BE HEALTHY-We celebrate Hearth Healthy
month with Mousercize in the gym. Also we will study good dentai care this
month. WINTER-We will continue our winter study with Groundhog Day and animals
that hibernate. The 5-day children will track the weather for 5 day period.
LOVE IS..,. What better time than February to took at how we love others-using
I Corinthians 13 as our guide. It is critical to keep our physical heart
healthy but we also need to nurture our children's "spiritual heart".
